Sexual Behavior in Children with A. Maria Nanos, LCSW, Ph.D.

This workshop will describe sexual behaviors in children. Participants will understand how to identify, assess and intervene when these behaviors are present.

Learning Objectives

  1. Identify sexual behaviors
  2. Assess behaviors from normal to disturbed
  3. Prepare an action plan to monitor behaviors and where to refer if necessary

A. Maria Nanos, LCSW, Ph.D., is the Executive Director of the Center for Law and Social Work. Dr. Nanos' clinical career began in 1987 focusing on children and families of sexual abuse and neglect in the Chicagoland area. She rapidly moved into managerial positions supervising programs in areas of mental health, child abuse, sexual assault, DCFS investigations and more recently grandparents raising grandchildren. Dr. Nanos is an avid advocate for human services in Chicago and is a frequent presenter at conferences and trainings.  She is an adjunct professor at Loyola University Chicago in the Master's program, is a therapist for Porchlight Counseling and has a part time clinical private practice. She has consulted with many agencies in Chicago.

On the 4th Thursday of every month, The Theraplay® Institute (TTI) hosts a meeting of attachment-focused mental health professionals, educators, and healthcare providers. The group includes professionals who work in private practices, adoption agencies, nonprofits, hospitals, and schools.  Attachment Matters offers the opportunity to meet professionals with similar interests and gain valuable skills and information.  This meeting will be from 9-11AM at The Theraplay® Institute, 1840 Oak Ave, Suite 320, Evanston, IL, 60201.
