Annual Appeal 2021
December 1, 2021 @ 8:00 am - January 31, 2022 @ 5:00 pm UTC+0
To our valued Theraplay community:
The pandemic is a global crisis that has had a devastating and ongoing impact on families, especially those already facing challenges. As examples:
- Roughly 175,000 children in the US alone, mostly from racial and ethnic minority groups, have lost one or both parents or a grandparent caregiver to COVID-19
- Domestic violence cases increased by 25-33% globally in 2020 alone
- Child services case workers around the world have been hindered from investigating reports of child maltreatment due to lockdowns – one study found that physical abuse of school-aged kids tripled in the US during the early months of the pandemic when widespread stay-at-home orders were in effect
In response to the crisis, The Theraplay Institute has continued to innovate by providing training both in-person and virtually to address this growing need, even in countries where there is little to no funding for training. The continued dedication and ingenuity of Theraplay practitioners around the world has built strong relationships and created resiliency for many. But there are still far too many children and families without access to the mental health resources that they need.
The value of supporting early intervention and lifelong mental health has never been clearer. Our mission – to improve the lives of as many children and families as possible by increasing access to Theraplay around the world – has never been more important.
We have no way of predicting the future and many of us are still experiencing periods of shut down and unknown. Theraplay practitioners have a greater opportunity than ever to support the children, families, and communities they serve – not only through this pandemic, but for generations to come. We want to make Theraplay as accessible as possible to children and families everywhere – including in our local community – and your donation will help to make that possible.
This year our goal is to raise $15,000. These funds will support training and certification scholarship opportunities for nonprofit professionals working with underserved populations around the globe. This, in turn, provides TTI the opportunity to not only expand access to Theraplay services in our local communities, but to support communities internationally in becoming trauma-informed and resilient.
Can we count on you to help us continue to expand the important work we do?
Please consider how you can support The Theraplay Institute’s work by making a donation today (link below!).

PS: For every donation of $250 or more we will donate a copy of the book, Parenting with Theraplay, (up to 10 of them!) to a practitioner or organization working with underserved communities. This is a great resource for parents and practitioners alike!
