Treating Trauma: Integrating Theraplay and Brainspotting for Trauma and Play Therapists

CEs Available: 8  (no APT or APA credit available)   |     Two Day Training      |     Virtual

Working with families who have experienced trauma can be demanding. Merging Theraplay® and Brainspotting can positively enhance the treatment experience and prognosis. Theraplay is a child and family modality of play therapy for building and enhancing attachment, self-esteem, trust in others, and joyful engagement. It is based on the natural patterns of playful, healthy interaction between parent and child and is personal, physical, and fun. On the other hand, Brainspotting can treat trauma itself. In this training we will discuss the benefits and particulars of working with Theraplay and Brainspotting, as merging the two modalities can complement each other when working with families who have experienced trauma. In this training we will talk about co-regulation, uncertainty, mentalization, attunement, and how these are important in trauma work. We will do this through the use of case examples and theoretical discussion; this workshop will examine the two modalities, their capacity to be utilized in treatment together, and how to integrate the two.
