Support Lifelong Resilience! Our goal this Giving Tuesday is to raise $5,000 to support scholarships for families and to help cover supplies and staffing for Camp Theraplay 2023. Children ages 5-10 are invited to join us at The Theraplay Clinic’s Camp Theraplay here at our clinic in Chicago in the summer of 2023! Our week-long day camp focuses on building a child’s social skills and expanding their capacity for emotional regulation. Each day includes Theraplay group activities, opportunities for movement and creative expression, and calming breaks designed to help a child downregulate.
This program will explore ethical principles specifically relevant to the practice of play therapy while looking at the responsible integration of expressive therapy theory and play therapy clinical theories. Utilizing sandtray therapy materials and poetic medicine techniques, participants will experience right brain contact with the tensions and opportunities held in ethical practice guidelines while working towards more socially just practices.
In this workshop, you will learn about the history of TBRI and how it was developed by Drs. Karyn Purvis and David Cross. You will gain insight into how TBRI’s three pillars of trauma-informed care are aligned with Theraplay’s four dimensions of parent-child relationships. Building strong attachment and empathy are hallmarks of both interventions and this course will help you understand the basics of how to marry the two.
In this training we will discuss the benefits and particulars of working with Theraplay and Brainspotting, as merging the two modalities can complement each other when working with families who have experienced trauma. In this training we will talk about co-regulation, uncertainty, mentalization, attunement, and how these are important in trauma work. We will do this through the use of case examples and theoretical discussion; this workshop will examine the two modalities, their capacity to be utilized in treatment together, and how to integrate the two.
