Our response to COVID-19

Training:

We’re working hard to restructure our in-person Theraplay training programs. Our primary mandate is to keep our participants, trainers, staff, and volunteers safe and healthy, and we’ll be making some changes to our in-person training programs in accordance with health guidelines and recommendations. Changes will include smaller training groups, sanitation and safety protocols, and adapted games and role plays. Future training will also incorporate support for adapting what you learn to work with the current situation in your community – from telehealth appointments to face-to-face work with children, families, and small groups.

In addition to these changes we are continuing to develop our virtual program content to increase accessibility to information about Theraplay for families, caregivers, and professionals.

More details to come.

Theraplay therapy:

Although each country and region’s rules about congregating, social distancing and commercial activity are different, it is the Theraplay Institute’s strong recommendation that Theraplay should not be practiced in person between practitioners and families at this time. The Theraplay Institute recommends either: 1) doing parent support sessions online or 2) providing virtual Theraplay sessions to parent and child online by guiding the parent and child through the activities and even doing the activities simultaneously while online.
