FAQ

Am I required to take all six modules?
You are required to take all 6 modules in order to register for practicum and work towards foundational certification, otherwise no. Completion of a module allows you to state that you have taken a Theraplay course, but you are not considered to be trained in Theraplay at that point.

What is the deadline for completion of all 6 modules in order to enter practicum?
All modules must be completed within a two year time frame of your start in order to enter the practicum.

May I take the modules in any order?
No. Attendance at each module is a prerequisite for the next module. If you’ve previously completed Level One Theraplay & MIM or the entire module series, you are welcome to take any of the modules in any order as a refresher course. The specific circumstances of this can be found at the bottom of this section.

What is your cancellation policy?
Please review our cancellation policy below.

May I view a recording of the training instead of attending it live?
The training will not be recorded. You must be in attendance for the entire module in order to qualify for continuing education and in order to be approved to progress to the next module.

Do I need to complete one module before registering for the next?
You may register for as many modules as you would like at one time, but you must complete each earlier module before you will be allowed to join the next module.

Are Level One Theraplay & MIM and Theraplay Modules the same?

No. The Theraplay Modules are a sequential learning program that provide a robust foundation for being able to begin implementing Theraplay-based interventions into your work. They are more extensive than attending a Level One Theraplay and MIM training. However, both of these programs will provide the same foundational coursework you need to start incorporating Theraplay-based interventions into your work and in order to enter the practicum.

Theraplay Module 1 is NOT the same as Level One Theraplay & MIM training.

What are the topics of the Theraplay Modules?

  1. Theraplay Theory and Concepts
  2. Trauma, Shame, and Resiliency in Theraplay
  3. Marschak Interaction Method Administration, Scoring, and Feedback
  4. Incorporating Parents into Theraplay Intervention
  5. Theraplay Treatment Planning
  6. Part A: Theraplay Implementation: Telehealth
    Part B: Theraplay Implementation: In-Person

Will all of the Theraplay Modules be delivered virtually?
Yes, with the exception of Module 6: Part B: Theraplay Implementation: In-Person. This module has an in-person experiential play requirement.

In what countries are the Theraplay Modules available?
Participants may take Modules 1 and 2 from any country. Modules 3-6 are only available to participants within the US.

What are the costs of the Theraplay Modules?

The cost of each module is posted in the respective registration pages and varies depending on the number of hours included in each module.

Not including any discounts or add-ons, the cost (in USD) of each module is:

Module 1 (6 CEs): $285
Module 2 (5 CEs): $240
Module 3 (5.5 CEs): $260 (not including the required text of Theraplay: The Practitioner’s Guide)
Module 4 (4 CEs): $220
Module 5 (6 CEs): $285
Module 6 (5.5 CEs): $260

Are continuing education credits available for the Theraplay Modules?
Yes, but only for those holding licenses in the United States. There is an additional fee for these.

What if I don’t like the modular form of attending training?  Can I switch into Level One Theraplay and MIM training?
Yes.  However, you would not be able to skip any part of Level One Theraplay & MIM training, as the courses are not designed to deliver content in the same order. You would still need to complete the entirety of Level One Theraplay & MIM training.  For the same reason, you may not complete half of your training through the modular format and through in-person Level One Theraplay & MIM training.

Can I attend one of the modules if I’ve already attended a Level One Theraplay & MIM training and would like to review the content?

Participants who have completed a Level One Theraplay & MIM program may register to attend any module. Please note that as a previous Level One attendee CEs may not be available for a module. We recommend directing any inquiries regarding CE approval to your accrediting organization for verification prior to adding this option to your registration. You may add CEs to your registration up until the business day prior to the start of the program by contacting TTI.

If you’ve attended a What is Theraplay? An Overview Seminar but not a Level One Theraplay & MIM training, you may bypass Module 1 but must otherwise attend the remainder of the module training series in sequence.

In the United States and many other parts of the world, Theraplay certification is limited to those with a masters or doctoral degree and a clinical license; the credential earned is Certified Theraplay Practitioner. In other countries that do not have universal clinical licensure, such as the UK, the credential earned is Certified Theraplay Practitioner, and professional accreditation is required. In all countries, those who are not mental health clinicians may attend training and become certified as a Foundational Theraplay Practitioner.
