Therapy Treatment Models:
At the Theraplay Clinic, we offer a number of clinical therapy services to treat a variety of behavioral and emotional challenges for children through adulthood. Prior to beginning treatment, a staff member will contact you to discuss the suggested type or combination of therapy treatment models that would be most appropriate for helping you through your present circumstances. As each person is different, our staff will work with you to create an individualized plan for treatment that is specific to your situation. At this time, all therapy treatment models are available in English, Spanish, and German.
Theraplay:
Theraplay is a dyadic child and family therapy that has been recognized by the Association of Play Therapy as one of seven seminal psychotherapies for children. Developed over 50 years ago, and practiced around the world, Theraplay was developed to support healthy child and caregiver attachment. Strong attachment between the child and the important adults in their life has long been believed to be the basis of lifelong good mental health as well as the mainstay of resilience in the face of adversity. Modern brain research and the field of neuroscience have shown that attachment is the way in which children come to understand, trust and thrive in their world. More information about Theraplay can be found here.
*The Theraplay treatment model involves close proximity. In order to adhere to social distancing guidelines and ensure your safety, your therapist will work with you to determine the best way to participate in Theraplay. Theraplay can be done via telehealth or in-person with accommodations that will best suit your family’s needs.
Play Therapy:
Children need to work through their struggles in their natural language of play. While Theraplay is a specific type of play therapy, other variations of play therapy incorporate puppets, sandtrays, art supplies, dolls, blocks, stuffed animals, dress up, or various other toys. Through play therapy, children learn to communicate with others, express feelings, modify behavior, develop problem-solving skills, and learn a variety of ways of relating to others. Treatment is tailored to the child’s needs. Regardless of whether you are involved in each play session, your child’s therapist will include you in all stages of treatment.
*At this time, individual therapy services are being offered in-person and through telehealth. Social distancing within our therapy offices has been implemented for in-person play therapy sessions. In addition, safety and sanitizing protocols have been put in place to keep you, your child, and our staff as safe as possible.
Individual Therapy:
Individual therapy is available to clients of all ages ranging from children to adulthood. In this type of therapy treatment model, an assigned therapist will meet with you in a one-to-one manner to help you reach your identified goals. Treatment is tailored to each client and may involve a variety of techniques from the therapist. When involving older clients, this type of therapy will typically take the form of traditional “talk therapy” to address current challenges. Other variations of individual therapy may incorporate play therapy and games, art therapy with mixed mediums, or other therapeutic methods such as writing, literature, or music to promote insight and expression.
Session frequency, duration, expectancy, and focus will differ for each client as each treatment is uniquely personalized to suit the specific needs of that individual.
*At this time, individual therapy services are being offered in person and through telehealth. Social distancing within our therapy offices has been implemented for in-person individual therapy. In addition, safety and sanitizing protocols have been put in place to keep both you and our staff as safe as possible.
Family Therapy
Family therapy is a service used when the focus of treatment is geared towards addressing the family as a unit. When participating in family therapy, all identified family members attend sessions with the therapist to collaboratively work toward the collective goals. A family therapy model allows for each member to not only understand their role within the family, but how to use their role for bringing about change in the overall family dynamics. Family members work with their assigned therapist to learn how their behaviors, mindsets, communication patterns, and roles contribute to family conflict. While each treatment for a family is highly individualized, family therapy may include talk, play, behavioral exercises, and assigned tasks to promote encouragement, nurture, structure, understanding, and change. Session frequency, duration, expectancy, and focus will differ for each family.
*At this time, family therapy services are being offered in person and through telehealth. Social distancing within our therapy offices has been implemented for in-person family therapy. In addition, safety and sanitizing protocols have been put in place to keep both your family and our staff as safe as possible. Availability of in-person services is dependent on the number of participating family members within session.
