The Theraplay Institute in Chicago, Illinois, is looking to hire a full-time (40 hours) mental-health clinician.  The position is a split between administrative duties and direct service to clients.  The position reports to the Clinic Manager.  The Mental Health Clinician position has responsibilities within The Theraplay Institute Child and Family Clinic.  These responsibilities can be described as follows:

  • Carry a caseload of at least 10 sessions per week (with an anticipated build-up over the first six months of employment);
  • Participate in weekly clinical group supervision;
  • Develop and deliver weekly group therapy programs (which includes creation of marketing, curriculum, staffing, budgeting, and other logistics);
  • Develop and deliver a summer camp for children (which includes creation of marketing, curriculum, staffing, budgeting, and other logistics);
  • Supervise a graduate-level intern if the opportunity arises;
  • Serve as a brand ambassador by meeting with potential referral sources and cultivating relationships to expand the reach of Theraplay’s clinical services;
  • Assist the Training Department with developing videos that can be used for training purposes; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Theraplay Child and Family Therapist

This position does require direct service to families in the Theraplay Child and Family Clinic.  However, the required number of cases will be assessed and reviewed with the Clinic Manager on an annual basis.  

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related mental health field;
  • Minimum three years of experience providing mental health counseling;
  • Current clinical licensure and in good standing;
  • Professional liability insurance;
  • Theraplay Certified or a willingness to become Theraplay Certified within one year of accepting the position;
  • Management experience desired but not required.

The Theraplay Institute offers

  • Annual compensation of $30,000, not inclusive of direct service hours;
  • Hourly clinical rates commensurate with Theraplay Certification level; 
  • All fees necessary to become a Certified Theraplay Practitioner (job is contingent upon completion of obtaining status of Certified Theraplay Practitioner within 1 year of start date);
