Hannah Sun-Reid

Hannah is a Certified Theraplay Practitioner since 2007. She is a certified Play Therapist, Supervisor, and Training Provider with the Canadian Association for Play Therapy. She is also a certified DDP Practitioner, Consultant and Trainer. Hannah has 30 years’ experience working with children and families who experience life challenges including developmental and emotional difficulties, trauma and loss. Hannah provides supervision and consultation to therapists and organizations, and conducts training workshops nationally and internationally. Hannah is also an author of children’s books and therapeutic games. She lives and works in Ontario, Canada. Seyoung Kim

Ph.D

Seyoung served as the president of the Korean Association of Theraplay®. She is a certified Theraplay Trainer, Supervisor, and Practitioner. She has studied child welfare and psychotherapy at Sookmyung Women’s University. She’s a clinical director of the Playful Healing Counseling Center in Seoul, South Korea. She’s interested in ASD and adaptive disorder child Theraplay. In the main research, there is “Action Research on the Parent Training based Theraplay for Children with Developmental Disabilities”.

Zaya Gillogly

M.S.W., L.C.S.W.

Zaya Gillogly (she/her/hers) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Theraplay Practitioner, and Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Practitioner. She is a Theraplay Supervisor-in-Training, Theraplay Trainer-in-Trainer, and is working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist. She works with youth of all ages, and their families, who have experienced physical or emotional abuse, developmental trauma, neglect, domestic violence, separation, divorce, and/or loss. Zaya has experience working with youth who are adopted and their families on grief, loss, identity, and other adoption-related topics. She aims to build a working alliance with families to identify the specific needs of their child. Zaya aims to create space for parent and child to experience connection, attunement, and mutual enjoyment as a tool to build their relationship. Utilizing the power of relationships to meet the needs of the child, Zaya supports families in creating positive emotional and behavioral changes.

Zaya earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Ohio University and her Master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in mental health at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has worked in community mental health, youth and domestic violence shelters, LGBTQ centers, and home-based services. Zaya has additional training in Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC), adoption-competent mental health, non-directive play therapy techniques, and art-based techniques. Anita Johanson Maddox

M.A., L.C.P.C, R.P.T.

Anita Johanson Maddox is a licensed clinical counselor and licensed professional educator with over thirty years of experience in varied settings that include a community mental health center, the Special Education District of Lake County, and 20 years at The Theraplay Institute. She has enjoyed working with a variety of populations from infants to the elderly. Her experience as a staff therapist at a Community Mental Health Center involved treating individuals and groups with both young families and the chronically mentally ill.  During that time, she also worked at The Children’s Memorial Hospital (renamed Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago) as an Infant Care Volunteer Coordinator.  She was employed for thirteen years at The Special Education District of Lake County (SEDOL) as a Family Specialist.  In the Spring of 2020, she became a Contractual Therapist at The Theraplay Institute. Anita has an interest in treating young children, children who have a variety of concerns that include, but are not limited to, characteristics of autism, medical and or developmental concerns, trauma and attachment concerns, and parent-child relationship difficulties. Using Theraplay® techniques, she guides families in experiencing happiness and togetherness. As a result, families achieve increased closeness and discover more positive ways of interacting. Anita creates a connection with families, and helps them develop a new perspective of their child’s worthiness and special strengths. Various experiences in her life have sparked her interest in working with families to assist them in understanding, accepting, and respecting each other.  Anita has discovered the empowerment that can be provided to people who have experienced challenges in their lives.

Anita is a Certified Theraplay Practitioner and a Registered Play Therapist – Supervisor. She has co-presented at The Theraplay Institute International Conferences and also co-authored an article which was published in The Theraplay Institute Newsletter, as well as a chapter in the book Applications of Family and Group Theraplay, Rowman & Littlefield Publisher, 2009, edited by Evangeline Munns.  In addition to mental health licenses in Illinois and Wisconsin, Anita also has a State of Illinois Educators License Early Childhood (Birth to Third Grade).

Joseph Serrano

Psy.D, L.P.C.

Dr. Serrano is a mental health clinician with over 14 years of varied clinical experiences in community mental health counseling centers, private practice, and inpatient facilities in rural, suburban, and urban areas within the Midwest. Dr. Serrano attended Northern Illinois University and received his Bachelor’s Degree in psychology. Then, after completing his Master’s Degree in counseling from Indiana’s Ball State University in 2008, he served as a therapist to the Southside of Chicago for over three and a half years. In 2012, he began his doctoral program in clinical psychology from Adler University in Chicago and graduated in 2017. Upon completion of his doctorate, he returned as a clinician to the Southside Chicago community while simultaneously working as the clinical director of a group practice in the Northwest Illinois suburbs. Dr. Serrano has an emphasis in treating behavioral challenges, mood and anxiety disorders, and relational difficulties amongst individuals, families, and couples ranging from childhood to geriatrics. 

Dr. Serrano also has clinical experience and interest in incorporating art, humor, and comic culture into therapy to promote growth and achievement of clinical goals. He is an avid comic book fan and has presented his research on the influence of comic books on moral development to various nationwide cities and audiences. He is also a founding member of a team that studies and nationally presents on the interconnectedness between comic books and their psychological significance to people and society. Lastly, he is a mixed media artist whose work has been displayed in books, events, and in various public locations around the United States.

Jennifer Obeid-Campbell

Jennifer (Nif) Obeid-Campbell, MS, LMHC is a Certified Group Theraplay® Trainer, Group Supervisor-in-Training, Certified Theraplay Practitioner, and Certified EMDR therapist. Nif received her Bachelors of Science in Marine Science and Biology and a minor in Chemistry from University of Miami in 1994. She returned to UM and earned a BS in Psychology in 1996. Upon graduating, she worked for four years with children with ASD in a home-based Discrete Trial Instruction (DTI) program. During that time, she worked in an ASD program and an intensive home-based family services program for teens at risk of being removed from their home. She relocated to Washington State in 2000 and earned an MS in Counseling Psychology from Central Washington University in 2002. After graduation, she began work in the Bonding and Attach program at a community mental health agency and received advanced training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), EMDR, CBT, and DBT. Nif was the agency coordinator for the DBT program. Recently, she has also added Emotionally-focused Therapy (EFT) to her arsenal and has begun delving into marriage counseling. Nif also served as the mental health consultant for her county’s Head Start program for 15 years and became an adjunct professor in the Psychology Department for Central Washington University. Nif opened a private practice in 2009 and currently works with a wide range of client issues, but maintains her passion for helping those with developmental trauma. She views lifespan development through an attachment lens and emphasizes neurobiological processes to help her clients create positive change in their lives. Discovering her passion for teaching has led Nif to create her own attachment-based, neuroscience-focused parenting model that has been used to train parents and foster caregivers, teachers, legal professionals, and childcare providers for the past 15 years. She is currently working with a local school district to bring attachment concepts into the school setting so children can consistently encounter adults who are emotionally available to support their academic, social and emotional needs.

Andy Baker

Andy is a specialist SEN primary school teacher, based in north Somerset, who has focused on Special Educational Needs for 20 years. He was a SENCo for 18 years, has been an Advisory Teacher for a Local Authority and a Children’s Social Care Team in North Somerset, specialising in attachment-aware practice. He currently works part-time as The Lead Teacher for Pupil Engagement and SEND with a Multi Academy Trust in North Somerset as well as running his own business. He is an accredited Group Theraplay© trainer, offering the 2-day course to organisations who wish to use Group Theraplay, either as part of an emotional wellbeing, PSHE programme or to support vulnerable children. He developed the use of Group Theraplay initially in his own school, both with whole classes and in a more targeted manner for groups of vulnerable children. He has also trained in DDP to level 2 and in the Incredible Years Parenting and School programmes. Andy is an accredited Theraplay© dyadic practitioner (Foundational) and has used this intervention to support children and parents and in schools with key members of staff. This approach works well as part of a broader ’trauma-informed approach.

Helen Rodwell

DClinPsy, Ph.D., MSc, HCPC

Helen is a HCPC registered Consultant Clinical Psychologist who works in independent practice in Derby, England. She holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, a MSc in Forensic Psychology, a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis, a Post Graduate Certificate in Systemic Psychotherapy, and a BSc(Econ) in Psychology & Sociology. She is a Certified Theraplay® Practitioner, Supervisor & Trainer Practitioner, Certified DDP Practitioner and EMDR Europe Accredited Adult, Child and Adolescent Practitioner. She has previously worked within secure settings, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) and co-managed a specialist multidisciplinary NHS mental health service for looked after and adopted children. Helen currently offers therapeutic interventions to children, parents and families alongside being a long-standing Expert Witness to the Family Courts. She is the co-author of Parenting with Theraplay (2017, Jessica Kingsley Publishers), An Introduction to Autism for Adoptive and Foster Families (2019, Jessica Kingsley Publishers) and Supporting the Mental Health of Looked After and Adopted Children (2018, CoramBAAF). Jenny Podd

Jenny is a Certified Theraplay® Practitioner, Supervisor-in-Training, and fully qualified Practice Educator. She is a registered HCPC Social Worker with many years’ experience in working with children and families. Her specialism is developmental trauma and attachment. Jenny currently works within a specialist CAMHS service for looked after and adopted children. Jenny is also trained in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy to Level II and uses both this and Theraplay as effective intervention tools to support her work with children that have experienced trauma and abuse. Jenny is passionate about helping children to build trusting, attuned relationships with their parents and carers through the use of Theraplay.

In addition to her direct work with families, Jenny also offeres consultation to a wide range of professionals and delivers attachment training to foster carers and social workers. Jenny also oversees the use of Theraplay within her specialist service and supports and mentors colleagues across Nottinghamshire who are trained in and using Theraplay in their practice. Heidi Pannell

BA, MA, DIPSW

Heidi has been a social worker for 20 years and is dedicated to building better futures for children. Heidi is a Certified Theraplay® Practitioner and Supervisor-in-Training, a Practitioner-in-Training in DDP, and a Relax Kids Coach.  

Heidi has worked in the adoption arena for 6 years with previous work experience comprising Safeguarding and Residential social work and different posts in community based Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAHMS).  Through her work experience she has gained therapeutic skill, specialist knowledge of attachment and developmental trauma, and particular understanding of the services and processes within the adoption sector. 

In addition to direct work with families, Heidi also provides consultation and supervision to professionals including social workers, teachers, foster carers, and special guardians.  Heidi regularly delivers attachment training to parents and provides therapeutic group work for children in educational and other settings.   

Heidi has a strong academic background and early in her career spent a number of years working overseas with children experiencing deprivation.  Heidi lives in the North West of England and has two children. Heidi can be reached at [email protected]
