Module 6: Theraplay Application and Role Play

Overview

In this two-part workshop, participants consolidate all they have learned in previous Theraplay® courses in order to apply their knowledge to begin working with play therapy clients.

In the first part, practitioners will apply their knowledge of Theraplay theory to their actual clients through role play application. This training demonstrates how to use Theraplay as a telehealth play therapy intervention with children and families effectively. Practitioners will learn how to plan play therapy sessions that will meet the needs of the child and support the capacity of the caregiver via telehealth. This training will also provide information regarding how to determine if a family is appropriate for Telehealth Theraplay and how best to address dysregulation, resistance, or a crisis remotely. The training provides explicit direction and practice on how to provide support to the parent within the limitations traditionally faced with remote work. This portion of the training is delivered virtually.

In the second part of the training, practitioners will apply their knowledge of Theraplay theory to their actual clients through in-person role play application. This training demonstrates how to use Theraplay as a play therapy intervention with children and families effectively. Practitioners will learn the various Theraplay activities and how to plan play therapy sessions that meet the needs of the child and caregiver to support the development of healthy attachment and relational health. This portion of the training is delivered in-person.
